Colourful Vietnam Festival lightens Japan
Prince Naruhito’s coming to the Vietnam Festival 2008 opened in Tokyo on September 20, 2008 has confirmed Japan ’s high respect to relations with Vietnam after 35 years of establishing diplomatic relations. The two-day festival, the peak in a series of celebrations to the 35th anniversary held across Japan, is expected to delight Japanese audiences during the week-ends with special art performances by the Ho Chi Minh City art troupe and Vietnamese famous singers alongside with Japanese singer stars.

The Vietnam Culture Space has made a difference with a painting and photo picture exhibition on Vietnamese land and people, an exposition on fine art articles and traditional gowns Ao Dai and numerous pavilions on traditional culinary arts.

Ambassador Nguyen Phu Binh to Japan said Vietnam and Japan have enjoyed huge leaps in bilateral relations over the past 35 years, culminating in a high-level commitment to “Building a strategic partnership in the interest of peace and prosperity in Asia .”

Among others present at the event were Japanese senior officials such as Senator Matsuda Iwao and Deputy Foreign Minister Ito Shintaro and industrial groups’ executives such as Toyota Group CEO Cho Fujio.

On the Vietnamese side were Politburo member of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee Ho Duc Viet, who is also Head of the Party CC Organising Commission and President of the Vietnam-Japan Friendship Parliamentarians’ Group, and many others.
